Principal's Kōrero
Sunny West
Kia ora e te whānau. What a busy start to the term we have had with so many projects on the go both inside and outside the school. I have really appreciated your patience and understanding while these things take place. I am really excited to see the transformation of the school happen this year.
Kī o rahi
Yesterday we had Kiorahi Limited onsite to run a workshop with our teachers and sessions with our students. Some of the classes were able to learn more about the game and its history. Even the teachers had a game before school started this morning to help them learn more about it. I am sure you will see this game being played more and more as the year goes on, especially when the weather plays its part.
Roadworks on Whittaker Street
Please be aware there will be road works on Whittaker Street this week (Monday 21st August - Friday 25th August) that will restrict access to our main gate as well as parking in this area. Limited parking/drop off will be available Monday - Wednesday, and limited to no access on Thursday and Friday. We are asking all parents to avoid parking on any section of Whittaker Street. Instead please use all other surrounding roads/streets as alternative options so that Camex Civil can get this work completed without unnecessary delays.
The main gate may be closed if it is unsafe. Please use Oliver Street entrance or the middle gate on Whitmore Street for the duration of these works. It will help to ensure our students are kept safe and without incident.
There will be traffic management on site to remind you of this request. We appreciate your cooperation - please share with others you know.
Covid update
On Tuesday 15 August the Government announced the removal of the mandatory COVID isolation rule. Public health officials have advised risk from COVID-19 is now considered low compared to other stages of the pandemic and it is safe to remove the final requirements. As with any other illness it is recommended that students | ākonga and staff stay at home if they are feeling unwell. We will be asking students to stay home if they are unwell to avoid the spread of any type of illness. We appreciate your cooperation with this matter.

Property Update
Rooms 7 & 8 are progressing well. We are due for an update next week as to the anticipated completion date. We are aiming for this to be at the end of August and will confirm this once we know more. An official opening is being planned so keep an eye out for notices about this. There will be an opportunity to look through this space once completed.
Artifical Turf
Turf installation is underway with completion expected in another week. Team Turf have been fantastic with their workmanship and they have been in between jobs to ensure ours is completed on time. We will expect a lot of interest in using this space during break times as well as after school. We hope this surface will be well used as well as looked after. Thanks to the Grassroots Trust for the grant that has enabled us to fund such an expensive project for our school.
Dogs
Please no dogs on our school grounds without prior approval from the Principal. We have noticed a lot of dog droppings around our grounds which is pretty unpleasant especially if it ends up tracked through our classrooms. It also poses a potential health risk when it is not cleaned up properly. There are occasions where we do allow dogs on our school premises but this is by BOT/Principal approval such as therapy dogs.
Whānau Consultation
In the coming weeks I will be sending home a couple of questions for you and your whānau to answer. Every year we are required to survey whānau about goals and strategic plans for the school to ensure we are getting your voice. This is really important to me as I value your contributions to how things are delivered and taught here. Please return the forms when you have finished answering the questions - I won't make it long, just a couple of key questions to help capture your aspirations and thoughts.
